Ray Softly 1915 – 2015 Obituary

We have just received the news that Ray Softly has passed away at the great age of 99. In fact had he lived for a further few weeks, he would have made the 'magic' 100.

Ray was our Natural History Secretary from 1980 – 1992. He was actually THE Natural History Section! Ray had an unrivalled knowledge of the flora and fauna of the Heath which he was always happy to share with anyone with similar interest and his knowledge of moths and butterflies was legendary, and Softly's Shoulder-knot was named after him.

Our thoughts at this time are with Ray's family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
